Thanks for a Wonderful Season

The fall of 2013 brought 83 ninth - twelfth grade boys together to participate on the JMM Boys Cross Country team. These boys ran many miles, completed dozens of workouts, did hundreds of push ups & sit ups, hung out at socials, and went out at every meet to represent Madison Memorial distance running to the best of their ability. Many goals were met and many personal records were set this season. The varsity came up 5 points short of making a return trip to state but had a very successful season and have provided a clear goal for next years returning runners. The JV team reached its goal of winning a Big 8 Conference Championship and reached many new successes this season to accomplish this goal. The bar has been set high for the JV team for many seasons to come. As a team we surpassed our academic goal for the fall and hope to see every athlete continue to grow as a student and positive influence on the Madison community. Next season we look to make a big step forward at the varsity level with the goal of having 7-8 athletes being sub 17:00 runners (with 2-3 of those runners being regular sub 17:00 runners). This is not an easy task and not one that will happen overnight or by one individual. As we look forward to the future we want to give a HUGE thank you to our graduating seniors. This group of seniors have been a big part of developing our program over the last four years and leave the team in the good hands of the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. We challenge these underclassmen to make a plan and set a goal now for the 2014 season. Through hard work and dedication the 2014 season will be another great experience.

Team GPA - 3.507
For the fourth season in a row our team has exceeded our team goal for GPA (3.4 or higher) and was the 4th highest GPA in team history (top GPA was 2011 - 3.577)....KEEP WORKING HARD IN THE CLASSROOM!!! Our team has SEVEN student athletes with a 4.0 GPA, who were joined by three other teammates for a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 1st quarter. 86.1% of our athletes met our individual goal of exceeding 3.0 for their cumulative GPA. Those athletes needing help in the classroom should ask a teammate, talk to their teachers, and get a tutor. There are many options available at Memorial if you take advantage of them. Keep up the great tradition of Memorial Distance Runners in the classroom.
