Midwest Invite 9/27/08

Wow...some great times run on Saturday. We have many improvements from just a couple days ago and multiple PRs. I really saw a better focus for the team and hope this continues throughout the season. The JV guys are down to 3 meets left with varsity a guaranteed 4 (with potential for a 5th ;) The team performed well in all three races...finishing 11th in the Frosh/Soph race, 9th in the Varsity race, and 4th in the JV race. Not bad for 31 schools competing at the meet. Some notes...

Adult Volunteers Needed!

JMM CC will be hosting the City Cross Country Championships on Friday October 10th @ Yahara Cross Country Course (the dump). We are in need of some adults to work in the results tent and the finish chute. Volunteers would need to arrive around 3:30pm and stay until about 6:00pm. Workers in the results tent would be handing out team information to coaches, collecting race cards, and reading places times to the scorer (2-4 people). Workers in the finish chute would be helping keep athletes upright and moving, passing out finisher cards, and assisting with the finish line (8-12 people). Hopefully we will have enough volunteers that if your son/daughter is racing you could "take that race off." If you are interested to volunteer, please email coach Casey (crhopp@hotmail.com) ASAP. Include your name and preference for area of volunteering.

THANKS

9/20/08 Smiley Invite

New meet, new course, and new experiences. The day was hot and humid but the boys rose to the occassion and had some nice races. The course times were a bit slower than we expected but that is what happens in cross country. The varsity had a nice pack, we just need to move it up 10 - 15 seconds. The varsity finished 4th to some tough competition. In the JV the boys ran great, we had 5 runners in the top 25 and finished 2nd as a team. I would love to see the gap continue to close between our top runners and the next group. We are entering the second half of the season and it is time to really learn how to compete.

9/16/08 Grade Level Challenge

A new meet and a lot of new experiences!!! It was hard to tell how the team was doing until it was all over and even then somethings changed. Madison LaFollette was announced as the boys team champion but upon further review Madison West won the championship with 38 points. 1 point seperated three teams. Madison Memorial finished 5th with 59 points...it is too hard to explain how the results were done (they are different then other races b/c places were determined by grade level) but it shows the importance of having a deep team and quality runners at every grade level. Our times continue to get more competitive and we are closing the gap on our conference opponents...finally this weekend we will see some new competition and see if we can stack up to our state ranking of #15 in the state.

9/11/08 Madison West Invite

It was humid but the course held up nicely with the rain. We continue to make improvements with many athletes running PRs. Our varsity ran some awesome times (with still room for improvement) as we finished 4th as a team closing the gap on some Big 8 schools and beating some others. We know West and Craig will be tough, but now we know what they got and will work to chase them down. The JV had a tough race and had mixed results for times. We need to continue to learn to run aggressively and be willing to hurt. Our JV Team finished in 5th place. Overall a nice meet for our second race of the year.

9/6/08 Verona Invite

Saturday was the start to a long season. We had some pluses and minuses to our race and many learning experiences. This meet is a starting point and we will work hard to improve our standing throughout the year. This meet is one of the most difficult meets we compete at. I'm pleased that we were close to many teams in our conference, but the boys know we have work to do to be able to beat our tough conference teams. Each meet will be a new experience and with hard work at practices WE WILL CLOSE THE GAP.

Results from the meet can be found at http://www.pttiming.com/raceresults.php

Some additional notes:
- All athletes should bring a bag of extra clothes with them to the meet, just in case it rains
- All athletes need to stay at the meet until the final cool down is done for the final boys race
- All athletes should bring a water bottle and sports drink to the meets to stay hydrate before and after the race

NEXT RACE: West Invite 9/11/08 Races start at 4:00pm with Boys Varsity
