Intrasquad - Thundercats Win!

Yes, Intrasquad in April...not normal so we made an alternative course to accommodate for our alternative season. It has been 525 days since JMM Boys CC toed the line for a 5k competition and even though we were still split squad and had no spectators in was nice to race a 5k again. Today is step one in the process and next week we get back to the hard work and training to keep improving. The team has been doing a great job following our mitigation practices, adapting to our spring training schedule, and working everyday to improve. I'm proud of where our team is today and look forward to the possibilities this season holds.

28 athletes completed Intrasquad this year and in the team race we split the squad into 2 teams...Thundercats & Warhawks (The CORE got a rest year). Thundercats took the title for the first time since 2013. They scored 194 to the Warhawks 212 points in the overall race. They also outscored the Warhawks in the 5 man races in both Race A (27 to 28) and in Race B (25 to 31). The Thundercats were led this year by captains Aidan, Bobby, & Cole.

Looking at some of the data about how our team, we saw a split of 1:06 between our #1 and #5 runners in the "varsity" group. We would like to see this number under 1 minute and closer to :45 seconds...so we have a little work to do here. Our "JV" group was a 31 second spread and this is exactly what we like to see out of our JV group (within 30 seconds of each other). This group getting closer to our varsity group in workouts in races will make both groups better. It is early in the season and we ran on a course we have never competed on before...so times are just a data point. Learn from this race, look to be faster next week, and continue to strive to improve. Do the little things at both practice and home to continue to stay healthy and see improvement in your running. Rest & recovery are super important right now...take care of yourself.
